Roman Road Trust and Public Works invite residents to share your views on the design of The Common Room’s facade at an online workshop on Sunday 7th February 2021, 11.00am-12.30pm. The Facade Design Workshop will be led by Simeon Featherstone, who grew up in Bow, and Anastasia Sledkova from ceramics-based practice PC Projects. Following the workshop, Simeon and Anastasia will finalise the ceramic design before it is co-created with the community and then installed.
The Common Room is currently being transformed to become a fully-functional community learning venue. Funds for the project were raised through Crowdfund London 2020 thanks to the incredible generosity of local residents, businesses, and organisations. Works are scheduled to commence onsite in Spring 2021 with the facade being the final element to design (FYI…facade is just a fancy word for the front of a building!)
Like all parts of The Common Room, the facade is to be designed with our community in mind. Roman Road Trust and Public Works are working closely with PC Projects to produce a tiled facade for The Common Room that will encapsulate the aims of the project. PC Projects will look to find the connections that represent a collective identity and sense of place.
Join us for a 1.5hr online workshop to learn about ceramics and how they can be used in the built environment, help co-design elements of the artwork, and contribute to the face of The Common Room.
There will be a follow-up session week commencing 22nd February 2021 where the proposed design will be presented to the community (exact date TBC.)
Please register your attendance via the Eventbrite link below. Attendees will be sent a Zoom invite prior to the session. This will be an informal, interactive, and fun workshop. Families are welcome.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday 7th February 2021, 11.00am – 12.30pm.
