The Roman Road Bow Neighbourhood Plan was formally adopted by Tower Hamlets at a full council meeting on 16 November 2022, following the October referendum in which 70 per cent (1,743) of those who voted supported the plan.
The Roman Road Bow Neighbourhood Plan now has full weight in all planning decisions within the neighbourhood planning area. This means the Neighbourhood Plan, together with the London Plan and Local Plan for the borough, comprise the Development Plan for Tower Hamlets. The neighbourhood plan gives the people of Bow a voice in local planning decisions and will help shape development in Bow over the coming years.
Neighbourhood Forums only have a five-year life. The Neighbourhood Forum is currently re-applying to be formally recognised by Tower Hamlets Council after its first 5-year term ended. Tower Hamlets Council is carrying out a consultation on the application and is accepting comments up to 12th January 2023. The email address for comments is: neighbourhoodplanning@towerhamlets.gov.uk
Call-out for new Committee Members!
The Neighbourhood Forum is the body set up to oversee the making and monitoring of the plan. Following the relatively small turnout in the referendum, the Forum Committee is aware of the need to strengthen its diversity and involve those who have not engaged with the plan to date. The Forum Committee is keen to welcome new members, particularly women and members of the Bangladeshi and other minority communities. New Committee Members will serve until the next annual general meeting in summer 2023 — when all Committee Members stand for election by the Forum membership.
The Forum Committee currently meet monthly in the evening and are looking for:
- Secretary to maintain the Forum’s membership, newsletter communications and take minutes
- Media Officer to assist with newsletters and social media posts
A love of the area, its people and the community is more important than any experience. If you are interested in joining the Forum Committee or would like to know more, please email: forum@romanroadbowneighbourhoodplan.org
