Globe Town Knees Up Review

On Thursday 22 March local businesses, residents and community leaders from Globe Town came together to celebrate the achievements of the Globe Town Common Vision.  It was a full house at The Larder where nearly 50 movers and shakers of Globe Town came together for drinks, food and a short film screening.

Deputy Mayor and Cllr Sirajul Islam attended and spoke to the businesses and residents about their ideas for the future of the high street.

Owners of Globe Town’s newest businesses also attended to meet their business neighbours. Michael Scofield and partner are the owners of new shop EP Lifestyle Tattoo (previously Tea Leaf) and Ben Clark from soon-to-open Nola (New Orleans inspired cocktail bar) previously Thai Romm.

The Globe Town Knee’s Up was a social event to give those involved in the Common Vision a chance to share ideas and network with the new connections made over the last six months.

The evening featured the screening of our Globe Town Common Vision short film (filmed by Janet Onabanjo, Calum Somerville, Ryan Bowen, and George Watson.) The short film documented the ideas, thoughts, and views from local school children, businesses, community groups, and residents.

Attendees were treated to a glass of bubbles or ice tea as well as vegetarian canapés designed especially by The Larder. The apple strudel and custard pie proved particularly popular.

A soundtrack of Senegalese Blues and Rat Pack classics was provided by Abdoulaye Samb Minnjiaraby, usually seen busking at Victoria Park food market, and Johnny Boy Moore.

Roman Road Trust would like to say a big thank you to all who attended the Globe Town Knee’s Up and thanks to The Larder for hosting us.

Globe Town Common Vision is an initiative led by Roman Road Trust and funded by LBTH to form a community-led common vision for the high street and the community it serves. Over the past six months, Roman Road Trust has held a series of workshops to help local residents, businesses, and community groups come together to create a common vision for our neighbourhood. These four workshops were themed on Identity & Heritage, Food & Markets, Public Realm, and Arts & Culture.
